Green Schools at The Mon
At Scoil Muire na Mainistreach, we are proud to be an active Green-Schools school, promoting environmental awareness and sustainability throughout our community. The programme encourages pupils to take responsibility for their environment and to make lasting, positive changes through action and education.
Since first joining the programme, we have been awarded nine Green Flags:

- Global Citizenship – Litter & Waste
- Global Citizenship – Energy
- Global Citizenship – Marine Environment
- Global Citizenship – Travel
We are currently working towards our 10th Green Flag: Global Citizenship – Food and Biodiversity.
Our Green Schools Committee, made up of pupils and staff, meets regularly to lead initiatives such as reducing waste, keeping our school grounds clean, and promoting recycling and composting. We also collaborate with the National Parks and Wildlife Service to foster environmental awareness through workshops and nature outings.
The Green-Schools Programme is a valued part of school life and helps us live out our commitment to care for the environment—locally and globally.
