Meet Vola – Our School Therapy Dog
Vola, our much-loved therapy dog from the charity My Canine Companion, has become a cherished member of life at The Mon. After completing her training programme, she officially graduated as a school therapy dog in May 2025.
Vola is cared for by her main handler, Mr Fitzgerald, and second handler, Geraldine (SNA), with support from all staff and pupils, who take a shared responsibility for Vola throughout the school day.
She brings calm and happiness across the school—spending time in our special classes (the Arbutus and Butterfly Rooms), out on the fun yard, in mainstream classrooms, and often enjoying a midday nap in the office with Alice. Many pupils take her for walks, give cuddles, or simply enjoy her company.
Vola is gentle, friendly, and adores attention—especially a good belly rub! She also loves playing fetch and is great at bringing the ball back every time.
Vola has a wonderful impact on our school environment. She helps pupils with emotional regulation, supports those with additional needs, and creates moments of calm and connection throughout the day. Her presence helps ease transitions, brings smiles to faces, and contributes to a warm, supportive atmosphere for everyone.
We are so proud of Vola and grateful to My Canine Companion for this wonderful programme. She’s a valued and much-loved member of our school family.
