Student Council at The Mon
The Student Council is an important initiative in our school, giving pupils a strong voice and an active role in shaping school life. It aims to promote leadership, responsibility, and teamwork, while helping students understand how democracy works in a real and meaningful way.
Each year, we hold a Student Council election at the beginning of the school year. Pupils campaign by creating posters and speaking to their classmates to share their ideas and goals for the school. Each class then votes for their representatives, ensuring every pupil has a say in who will represent them.
Once elected, Student Council members meet regularly throughout the year. During these meetings, they discuss ideas and suggestions on how to improve school life for everyone. These ideas are shared with staff and school management, helping to build a more inclusive and dynamic school environment.

Our Student Council has already been involved in a number of exciting projects, including:
- Launching the Recycled Bottle Scheme – encouraging sustainability and raising funds for school activities.
- Supporting Special Themed Weeks – helping to organise and run events that celebrate learning, wellbeing, and creativity.
- Raidió na Mon – a student-led broadcast over the intercom every Monday that highlights pupil achievements, celebrates birthdays, and announces upcoming school events.
The Student Council is a valued part of life at The Mon and reflects our commitment to pupil voice, empowerment, and community spirit. We’re proud of the work our Student Council does and look forward to seeing how it continues to grow each year.
